In 2008, DENSO Corporation.*2 started the "DENSO YOUTH for EARTH Action:New Earthlings Project" in cooperation with the Japan Environmental Education Forum.*3 It is an international program that will foster young people who have a high level of awareness about humankind's coexistence with the environment and who will actively tackle efforts to create a sustainable society. Through this program, the youth around the world will come into contact with the rich natural world of Japan and the ASEAN countries, and they will experience that coexistence with the environment in regions and companies. Then, they will devise their own action plans based on the various values, broad insights, experiences, and knowledge obtained through the program and present those action plans at the forum. We aim to expand the environmental activity to the world by connecting that to their own activities.
In 2009, which will be the second year of the program, it will be held in Japan for students from Japan and the six ASEAN countries.*4 We hope that Japanese and Southeast Asian youths will learn through on-site experience, and, as a step toward their own future, they will become the "new earthlings" who will support the next generation.
