The Danish Government Scholarships

The Danish Government Scholarships under the Cultural Agreements are aimed at highly qualified exchange students and young research scientists wishing to immerse themselves in studies of the Danish language and culture or other fields of study related to Denmark.

Scholarships are offered to exchange students and young research scientists from higher education institutions in the following countries:

-  19 EU-countries: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovak Republic, Spain, and the Netherlands 

-  Iceland, Switzerland, Serbia and Turkey

- Non-European countries: China, Japan, Israel, Egypt and Russia

Scholarships are only available to master’s and PhD-level students and young research scientists. However, bachelor's degree students wishing to study Danish language and literature can also apply if they have studied the Danish language for two years.

Please note: Scholarships are only offered to students enrolled in full-degree studies at higher education institutions in the countries listed above. Ph.D. students and researchers must likewise be employed at, or affiliated with, higher education institutions in the abovementioned countries.

Applications from candidates affiliated with higher education institutions in countries other than those listed will not be taken into consideration.

United States–South Pacific Scholarship Program

The United States–South Pacific Scholarship Program, authorized by the U.S. Congress and funded by the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs of the U.S. Department of State, is a competitive, merit-based scholarship program that provides opportunities for degree study at U.S. institutions of higher education. The scholarship program will include a summer internship in Washington, D.C. as well as a four- to five-week community service project in the student’s home country. Candidates from the following countries, who meet specific selection criteria, are eligible for the program: Cook Islands, Fiji, Kiribati, Nauru, Niue, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu. The U.S.–South Pacific Scholarship Program is administered by the East-West Center on behalf of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.

Eligible fields of Study: Standard liberal arts curriculum and other selected fields, with priority given to agriculture, business*, computer science, education, environmental studies, journalism, political science, public administration, and related fields. If a proposed field of study is not among the priority fields, the applicant should give special attention to explaining how this course of study would support the goals of the program. Support is not available for professional degree programs such as medicine (M.D.), masters in business administration (MBA)*, or law (J.D.). *Business study is supported at the undergraduate level only.

Up to five (5) scholarships will be available for studies to begin in August 2012.

Selection: Selection will be made by a U.S.-based academic review committee that may include Pacific Islands and other specialists from the East-West Center, the University of Hawai’i, a representative of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and a Pacific Islands student representative.

Eligibility
    Applicants must have completed the Sixth Form (the final year of high school in many countries) at the time of application. Individuals who have completed some undergraduate level courses but have not obtained the equivalent of a U.S. four-year bachelor’s degree are also eligible. Individuals who have completed a three-year baccalaureate program may apply for a one-year bridging program, which, upon completion, allows for application to a master’s degree program. Some master’s programs may not require the bridging year, depending on prior study and academic performance during the first year. The USSP program does not generally allow direct application and admission to a graduate degree program.

    Because an objective of the program is to provide an educational exchange experience to those not previously afforded such an opportunity, preference will usually be given to candidates who have not had recent extensive experience in the United States. Preference may also be given to candidates who have not had extensive opportunities for study at educational institutions outside the Pacific Islands region (i.e., outside the countries listed in paragraph one above.)

    Scholarship recipients must be able to meet the requirements of the Exchange Visitor (J-1 visa) program.

    Individuals who have dual citizenship, one being that of the United States, are not eligible.

Buick Achievers Scholarship

It starts with good grades. But goes beyond.
A dedicated student. A leader in school. A volunteer worker. A college-bound and community-minded individual.

The Buick Achievers Scholarship Program wants to reward students who have succeeded both inside and outside of the classroom—and who may not be able to attend college without financial assistance. It's a reward for what you've made of yourself and the difference you are making for others.

The Buick Achievers Scholarship Program is offering:
    Up to $25,000 per year for 100 first-time freshman or existing college students, renewable up to four years and one additional year for those entering a qualified five-year engineering program.
    $2,000 one-time awards for an additional 1,000 students.

Applicants must:
    Be high school seniors or graduates or be current undergraduate students
    Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited U.S. four-year college or university for the entire 2012–13 academic year (excluding proprietary and online schools)
    Plan to major in a specified course of study that focuses on Engineering/Technology or select Design and Business-related programs of study. See the list of eligible majors.
    Be interested in pursuing a career in the automotive or related industries
    Be U.S. citizens and have permanent residence in the United States

Excluded from consideration are employees and relatives of employees of Scholarship Management Services, Scholarship America and their affiliates and subcontractors, and GM Foundation Directors, Officers, and staff and their relatives. Although GM employees are not eligible, relatives of General Motors employees are eligible.

Recipients will be awarded one scholarship at either of the two award levels:
    1,000 Buick Achievers Scholarships of $2,000
    100 Buick Achievers National Scholarships of up to $25,000 per year, renewable for up to four years, and one additional year for those entering a five-year engineering program.
        The actual award amount will not exceed the total cost of the student's tuition, fees, books, supplies, required equipment, room and board and other allowable expenses, less other gift aid known at the time of application (scholarships, grants and other awards that do not have to be paid back). Awards are renewable for the given years noted above or until a bachelor's degree is earned, whichever occurs first. Renewal is contingent upon maintaining a cumulative 3.0 grade point average (on a 4.0 scale), full-time enrollment and continuing to major in an eligible field of study.

Awards are for undergraduate study only.

Google Europe Scholarship

Access to knowledge is our passion. When it comes to higher education for promising scholars, we do not want anything to stand in the way. That is why we are pleased to announce the Google Europe Scholarship for Students with Disabilities. Google is committed to helping the innovators of the future make the most of their talents by providing scholarships and networking retreats for computer science students with disabilities. This scholarship aims to help dismantle barriers that keep students with disabilities from entering computing, encourage them to excel in their studies and become active role models and leaders in creating technology.

Multiple scholarships will be awarded based on the strength of candidates’ academic performance and demonstrated passion for computer science. A group of Bachelors, Masters, and PhD students will be chosen from the applicant pool. Applications will be reviewed by a committee of researchers and engineers. The scholarship recipients will each receive a EUR 7,000 (or equivalent) scholarship for the 2012/2013 academic year.

In June 2012, all scholarship recipients will be invited to visit a Google office in Europe for an all-expenses-paid networking retreat. It will include workshops with a series of speakers, panels, breakout sessions and social activities, and will provide an opportunity to meet and share experiences.

Eligibility requirements
Candidates must be:
    A student enrolled in a Bachelors, Masters or PhD programme (or equivalent) in 2012/2013.
    Enrolled at a University in Europe. Citizens, permanent residents, and international students are eligible to apply.
    Studying Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Informatics, or a closely related technical field.
    A person with a disability, mental health or other long term health condition (including dyslexia, dyspraxia, visual impairment, hearing impairment, diabetes, epilepsy, depression, anxiety disorders, and any other physical or mental impairments or health conditions).

How to apply
Please complete the online application and submit all requested documents by 1st February 2012. All application documents must be in English. Scholars will be notified in April 2012.

You will be required to submit the following:
 - Up-to-date copy of your CV.

 - Answers to the following questions(Suggested word count is 400-600 words per question. You should treat question 1 and 3 as technical reports or research papers):
        1.Describe a significant technical project you have worked on. If you have worked on a major independent research project (such as research for a Masters or PhD programme), please describe that work here. Give an overview of the problem and your approaches to the key technical challenges. If this was a group effort, be sure to specify your individual role and contributions.
        2.Give one or two examples of your leadership abilities. Explain how you were influential and what you were trying to achieve. These need not be demonstrated through formal or traditional leadership roles. Feel free to think broadly and examine the many ways you impact members of your technical community.
        3.Suppose someone gave you the funding and resources for a 3- to 12-month project to investigate a technical topic of your choice. Write a short version of a proposal, including a description of the project, your planned methodology, and your expected results. Please pick something other than the project you described for the first question.

   - Academic transcripts.
        Bachelors: A copy of your current academic record.
        Masters and PhD: A copy of your previous and current academic records.

   - Enrollment confirmation for 2012/2013 or confirmation of graduation date.
        Please include with your application an official enrollment confirmation or a confirmation of your graduation date issued by an official authority of the university e.g. your departmental administrator or a professor. If you graduate before October 2012, you are not eligible for the scholarship.

   - Recommendation letters.
        Two strong referral letters from individuals who are qualified to evaluate your accomplishments, e.g. from a professor, adviser or supervisor.

Davidson Fellows Scholarships 2012

The Davidson Fellows Scholarship awards $50,000, $25,000 and $10,000 scholarships to extraordinary young people, 18 and under, who have completed a significant piece of work.

Application categories are Mathematics, Science, Literature, Music, Technology, Philosophy and Outside the Box. Davidson Fellows are honored every year in Washington, D.C. with Congressional meetings and a special reception.

Eligibility
To be eligible for consideration as a Davidson Fellow, applicants must: 
    - Be 18 or younger as of October 4, 2012
    - Be a U.S. citizen residing in the United States, or a Permanent Resident of the United States residing in the United States, or be stationed overseas due to active U. S. military duty.
    - There is no minimum age for eligibility.
    - The Davidson Institute is looking for students whose projects are at or close to the college graduate level with a depth of knowledge in their particular area of study. This scholarship is not geared toward students at the novice level. See Project Criteria below.

Davidson Fellows must be available to attend, with at least one parent or guardian, the awards reception and other recognition events to be held in October 2012 in Washington, D.C. (Travel expenses and lodging will be provided by the Institute.)
