About the AARP Foundation Women's Scholarship Program
The AARP Foundation Women's Scholarship Program is helping win back opportunity for low income 50+ women by funding education, training, and skills upgrades that can lead to better employment and increased financial security for women and their families. Since 2007, The AARP Foundation Women's Scholarship Program has awarded scholarships to more than 800 eligible women- facilitating their entry into programs they could otherwise not afford, and ultimately assisting in their recession recovery efforts.

How to Apply
The scholarship application period for the 2012-2013 academic year will last from Wednesday, February 1, 2012, at 9 a.m. CST until Friday March 30, 2012, at 5 p.m

QUALIFICATIONS
Eligibility Requirements
An applicant for the AARP Foundation Women's Scholarship Program must be:
    Women, age 50+ by March 30, 2012
    Low-income
    Pursuing a technical or vocational education, an associates degree, or a bachelor's degree
    Enrolled in a U.S. Department of Education accredited school or techinical program within 6 months of the scholarship award date

*An applicant, when taking into account income and family size, must be at 150% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines or less to qualify for a scholarship. If an applicant does not meet this criteria they will not have access to the application, because they are not eligible for the scholarship.

The Gilman Scholarship Program

The Gilman Scholarship Program offers awards for undergraduate study abroad and was established by the International Academic Opportunity Act of 2000. This scholarship provides awards for U.S. undergraduate students who are receiving Federal Pell Grant funding at a two-year or four-year college or university to participate in study abroad programs worldwide.

The Gilman Scholarship Program is open to U.S. citizen undergraduate students who are planning to study abroad. The program aims to diversify the kinds of students who study abroad and the countries and regions where they go by supporting undergraduates who might otherwise not participate due to financial constraints.

Eligibility
The Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship Program is open to all U.S. citizen undergraduates, in good academic standing, who meet the criteria listed below:

    The applicant must be receiving a Federal Pell Grant or provide proof that he/she will be receiving a Pell Grant at the time of application or during the term of his/her study abroad.
    The applicant is applying to or has been accepted into a study abroad program eligible for credit by the student's accredited institution of higher education in the U.S.
    The applicant is studying abroad for at least four weeks in one country. Programs going to more than one country are eligible if the student will be studying in one country for at least four consecutive weeks.
    The applicant is studying abroad in any country except Cuba or a country
    on the U.S. Department of State's current Travel Warning list. 

A limited number of scholarships for Summer programs will be available to students from all majors who meet the program's standard eligibility criteria.

When to Apply
Mid-January 2012 : Online application opens for Summer 2012 & Fall 2012 study abroad programs.
March 1, 2012 : Student Deadline for submission of online application. Must submit application by 11:59pm CST.
