Weaving the Mekong into Southeast Asia: WMSEA” Fellowship Program

Objectives of the WMSEA Fellowship Program :
To provide financial support to grantees from Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, and Vietnam to study for the International Master Degree Program in Southeast Asian Studies at the Faculty of Arts, Chulalongkorn University. The program is designed to create an alternative insight and an alternative understanding of the region from the region’s standpoint. This in turn will result in the development and the strengthening of younger generation of the region’s academic and intellectual community, shaping a better future of peace and harmony.

Applicant’s Qualifications :
· Age: 20 to 35 years old.
· Nationality: Laos, Cambodian, Thai or Vietnamese.
· Residence: permanent resident of Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, or Thailand, and ready to return home after graduation.
· Education: Bachelor’s degree in any field of study with good academic records.
· Career: relevant to Southeast Asian Studies.

MBA Scholarships for Technology Management

Scholarship Linked to leading industry, the NIT offers scholarships for highly motivated and outstanding individuals. When you apply to the NIT you will automatically be considered for a scholarship. In the past, nearly all NIT students received a scholarship.Some of the industry specific scholarships are listed below. When applying, please indicate in your Statement of Purpose, as described in the admission procedure, which scholarships you would like to be considered for.

An NIT scholarship (13,000.- EURO per year) covers all tuition for the Global Engineering Program (TUHH and NIT), but not accommodation.Additional scholarships (3,000.- EURO per year) cover the cost of campus accommodation and are available through the NIT for at least 75 % of the students.

For further scholarships to cover personal living and accommodation expenses you may also contact directly the local office of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the German embassy, and the Goethe-Institut in your country or other German fund institutions. Due to application deadlines you must apply for these full scholarships at least already one year in advance.
Due to the availability of other public and private funding the NIT expects to be able to offer in 2008 again a strictly limited number of full scholarships (tuition plus free accommodation) to outstanding students.

The Guest Scholarship Program

General criteria
Countries: The Guest Scholarship Program is open for applicants from all countries with the exception to the Nordic countries (Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Iceland and Norway). Students from Belarus, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Russia and Ukraine should apply to the
Visby Programme.

Study levels:
The program is open for PhD-students, post-doc researchers as well as master's level students. A few scholarships are reserved for short term visits for students of the Swedish language and literature.

Eligible subjects and programs:
On PhD and post-doctoral level the scholarship is open for all subjects. On master's level the eligible programs are listed here:

Scholarship benefits:
The scholarship amounts to SEK 8 000 per month for students/PhD researchers and SEK 12 000 per month for post-doc researchers (holders of a PhD degree).

Scholarship period:

For master’s level programs, the scholarships are usually granted for one academic year, i.e. for two semesters at a time, but can be extended providing the study results are satisfying.

DAAD Scholarships

DAAD Scholarships for Nationals of Cambodia , Lao PDR , Myanmar and Vietnam

The Deutscher Akademischer Austausch Dienst - German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and the Asian Institute of Technology ( AIT ) have agreed to strengthen national and institutional capacity of DAAD priority countries, namely Cambodia , Lao PDR , Myanmar and Vietnam through the offering of the DAAD- AIT Scholarships .

For the August intakes of 2007 and 2008 a total of 10 full scholarships are available for students from the DAAD priority countries who wish to pursue master's degree in AIT . The scholarship award cover tuition and other academic fees, and living allowances for a 22-month program.

APPLICATION PROCESS, CRITERIA AND SELECTION FOR DAAD SCHOLARSHIP
To qualify, applicants must:
1) Be a bonafide national of Cambodia , Lao PDR , Myanmar or Vietnam .
2) Applicants should be not more than 28 years of age when applying.
3) They are requested to hold a Bachelor degree with a minimum GPA of 3.00/4.00 (or equivalent).
4) Additionally a TOEFL of at least 550 (paper based) or 213 (computer based) or IELTS of at least 6.0 is mandatory. DAAD does not accept institutional TOEFL reports.
5) Prospective applicants will apply directly to AIT .
6) In addition to AIT 's application package, the applicant is to submit a CV (typed, 2 pages at most) and a letter of motivation for the master's study.
Notes:
1) AIT shall forward the eligible application dossiers (pre-selected according to DAAD/ AIT requirements) to DAAD along with a list of applicants ranked according to AIT criteria.
2) The final decision will be taken by DAAD screening committee. The successful candidates will receive an official DAAD Letter of Award as soon as all formal requirements for admission and enrollment at AIT have been met.

ASEAN Foundation Scholarships

The ASEAN Foundation (AF) and the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT) have entered into another agreement to develop high quality human resources within ASEAN member countries through the offering of the AF-AIT Scholarships.

Ten (10) full scholarships are available for ASEAN nationals who wish to pursue masters degree in AIT. The scholarship award will cover tuition and other academic fees, and living allowances for a 2-year programme
Four (4) scholarship slots will be awarded under the project “Capacity building for Gender, Poverty and Mobility Analysis of Road Transportation Development in GMS Region”. FULBRIGHT SCHOLARSHIPS 2009

GENERAL INFORMATION/PROVISIONS

To continue its mission of promoting mutual understanding between the people of the United States and Thailand through educational exchange, which has been successfully implemented throughout the past five decades, the Thailand‑United States Educational Foundation (Fulbright) announces its annual competition for "FULBRIGHT SCHOLARSHIPS" to qualified Thai individuals for graduate study in the United States for the academic year 2009.

As a “Fulbrighter” confers instant recognition of the fact that the individual has been chosen through a rigorous internationally recognized competition based on individual merit and a transparent selection process. This has been true since the Program’s inception and its reputation instantly identifies grantees as members of a worldwide community of scholars all selected on the same basis and sharing the same goal of promoting mutual understanding of Thailand and the United States of America.

Awards will be offered in a broad variety of fields with the exception of medicine, public health, nursing and allied subjects.

Up to seven grants will be available for the academic year 2009, for pursuing a master's degree. Grants are normally for one academic year. Grantees who require more than one year to complete the master’s degree are expected to find support from other sources for their study program in the United States beyond the initial year. However, renewal of the grants will be considered on a case by case basis.

For the academic year 2009, the Stock Exchange of Thailand (SET) has proposed to cooperate with the Foundation in providing up to two Fulbright-SET grants for outstanding candidates to pursue master’s degree programs in the fields of Derivative, Research and Development and Financial Engineering. Qualified applicants will be invited to compete under the normal selection processes, rules, and practices of the Fulbright Open Competition Scholarship Program (Please specify your interest in the application form).

Grants are intended to cover costs of tuition and fees, books and educational supplies, maintenance allowance, insurance coverage and round-trip international travel expenses from Thailand to the United States. Some of the grants may be combined with tuition waivers or other financial aid from appropriate institutions.

Deadline for application submission is April 21, 2008. No extensions will be granted in any circumstance.

UNIVERSITY STAFF DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM 2009

GENERAL INFORMATION/PROVISIONS
the Thailand‑United States Educational Foundation (Fulbright) sets aside a portion of its annual study grants for qualified lecturers from provincial universities (setting up within the past 20 years) for pursuing a Master’s or Doctoral degrees in the United States.
Up to two (2) grants will be awarded in broad variety of fields with the exception of medicine, public health, nursing and allied subjects to provincial university lecturers with priority to the newer institutions which were established within the past twenty years.
Grants are intended to cover the costs of tuition and fees, books and educational supplies, maintenance allowance and insurance coverage or may be combined with tuition waivers or other financial air from appropriate U.S. institutions. A round-trip international travel expenses (from Bangkok to the place of study in the U.S.) will be provided by the grantee’s home university. If the candidate is assigned to a summer English language training program, the home university travel grant will cover the cost of travel from port of entry in the United States to the English program and to the place of academic study. Grants are normally for one academic year.
Grantees are strongly recommended to find support from other sources for their study programs beyond the initial year. However, renewal of the grants will be considered on a case by case basis for up to two additional years where the students’ academic records are satisfactory for further works towards the academic degree specified in the award.
Deadline for application submission is May 19, 2008. No extensions will be granted in any circumstance.
ELIGIBILITY An applicant must:
1) be a Thai citizen in good health (Individuals holding U.S. immigrant visas or permanent U.S. resident cards (green cards), or dual (Thai and U.S.) citizenships are not eligible for Fulbright scholarships to Thai citizens);
2) have at least a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or equivalent on transcripts of undergraduate study or a successful academic record at the graduate level (an applicant applying for a Ph.D. degree must complete his/her Master’s degree program before the deadline of application submission);
3) have an TOEFL score (iBT score of at least 80, or computer-based TOEFL score of at least 213, or paper-based TOEFL score of 550 or above) on a test taken between March 2006 and March 2008 (For TOEFL examination, please directly visit website www.toefl.org for more information);
4) if possessing a degree from abroad, must have resided in Thailand for at least three years when applied;5) be able to fulfill regulations of the home university and the Thai government concerning leave of absence travel and study abroad; and6) be in Thailand for the interview.

The Google 2008 Anita Borg Scholarship

Dr. Anita Borg (1949 - 2003) devoted her adult life to revolutionizing the way we think about technology and dismantling barriers that keep women and minorities from entering computing and technology fields. Her combination of technical expertise and fearless vision continues to inspire and motivate countless women to become active participants and leaders in creating technology. As part of Google's ongoing commitment to furthering Anita's vision, we are pleased to announce the 2008 Google Anita Borg Scholarship, through which we hope to encourage women to excel in computing and technology and become active role models and leaders. Scholarships will be awarded based on the strength of candidates' academic background and demonstrated leadership. A group of female undergraduate and graduate student finalists will be chosen from the applicant pool. The scholarship recipients will each receive a $10,000 scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year. Remaining finalists will receive $1,000 each. All scholarship recipients and finalists will be invited to visit Google headquarters in Mountain View, California on April 3-5, 2008 for a networking retreat which will include workshops with a series of speakers, panelists, breakout sessions and social activities. The Graduate Scholarship Program

The Graduate Scholarship Program for Faculty Members from Neighboring CountriesFounded in 1917 by H.M. King Vajiravudh (Rama VI), the university was named after his father, H.M. King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), for it was during his reign that modern education took root in Thailand.
Recognizing the importance of internationalization, CU has taken a leading role in implementing interactive collaboration with the international community. In order to further develop academic cooperation between Thailand and its neighboring countries, the University has established a “Scholarship Program for Neighboring Countries” to provide academic assistance to faculty members from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar and Vietnam to pursue their studies at Chulalongkorn University at the Ph.D. level.

Term of Scholarships :
Three years (From June 2008 to May 2011)
This program concerns only international programs and English Programs in Doctoral Degree study in one of these faculties : Arts, Commerce and Accountancy, Economics, Engineering, Nursing, Pharmaceutical Science, Science, Petroleum and Petrochemical College, College of Public Health and Graduate School. Provisions of the Scholarships :
The scholarships will cover the following :
1. An economy class round-trip ticket to and from designated capital cities or principal cities (excluding domestic airfare with both neighboring countries and Thailand.) Travelling expenses incurred other than air tickets will be bone by recipients.
2. Tuition and Fees
3. Stipend and accommodation in the amount of 14,000 baht/month.

Eligibility of Applicants :
1. These scholarships are only for full-time teaching faculty who will return to teach at their home universities after graduation from Chulalongkorn University.
2. Applicants must have completed Bachelor’s Degrees/Master’s Degrees in related fields.
3. Applicants must have a grade point average for the latest semester before applying of not lower than 2.75 for undergraduate, and not lower than 3.25 for postgraduate.
4. Applicants’ age must be less than 35.
5. Applicants must have a good command of English . A minimum TOEFL score of 500 Paper-based or 173 Computer-based or IELTS score of 5.0 is required.
6. Applicants must be in good health.
7. Applicants must not be recipients of other types of scholarships.

3. Absence of recipients without notice or reasonable explanation. During the semester, the student departs Thailand for over 15 days without the consent of his/her academic advisor.For vacation time, the student departs Thailand for over 30 days withoutthe consent of his/her academic advisor.

THE JAPANESE GOVERNMENT (MONBUKAGAKUSHO: MEXT) SCHOLARSHIPS for 2008 and 2009

the Japanese Government (Monbukagakusho:MEXT) Scholarships for 2008 and 2009 are as follows:

During the term of the scholarship, monthly allowances of approximately 170,000 yen per month and 160,000 yen in and after the thirteenth month of stay in Japan* will be given to postgraduate grantees. The Application Fee, Admission Fee and Tuition Fees will be exempted. A round-trip airplane ticket between the grantee's home country and Japan will be also provided.

(For the Japan-Germany Dual Master's Degree Program in Material Flow Management, a monthly allowance of up to 715* Euro for 10 months during the second year spent in Germany, and transportation cost of up to 1215* Euro between Japan and Germany will be sponsored by the German Academic Exchange Service instead of the Japanese Government. *Amounts and durations are subject to change)

The International Priority Graduate Programs (PGP) for September 2008 Enrolment

Will be available to Overseas Applicants* for the new 'Comparative Institution Design for Transition Economy and Business Management' Program, the 'Japan-Germany Dual Master's Degree Program in Material Flow Management' and Innovation and Technology Management, commencing September 2008. In addition, up to 4 scholarships will also be granted to applicants to any of APU's graduate programs (including those not listed above).

Students interested in these programs shall apply directly to APU. Those wishing to apply for these programs on the MEXT scholarship shall meet the specific qualifications outlined within the respective guides. Applicants whose academic results fall short of the necessary requirements, or those who pass preliminary screening but are not selected at the final screening by MEXT may still be considered for these programs. However, the scholarship that will be awarded will be the APU Tuition Reduction Scholarships or other scholarship program rather than by the Japanese Government. Applicants who are not granted the Japanese Government scholarship are required to pay the Application Fee, Admission Fee and other fees that are not covered by the scholarships.

The University of Birmingham Hong Kong Postgraduate Scholarships

Brief History and Aim
The scholarship, which was established in 1985, enables the selected candidates to pursue one-year Masters degree programmes at the University of Birmingham in the United Kingdom. The selected candidates are expected to make contribution to the community of Hong Kong after the completion of their studies.

Eligibility
Applicants should :
have resided in Hong Kong for at least 7 years preceding 1 October 2008;
be holders of a degree (or expect to hold a degree before September 2008) from any institution of tertiary education in Hong Kong.(Those with diplomas and other non-degree qualifications from these institutions may be considered for admission to a relevant postgraduate programme if their qualifications and working experience are acceptable to the University of Birmingham.
In the case of the University of Birmingham Queen Elizabeth Scholarship, eligibility is restricted to graduates of the University of Hong Kong);

have applied by 30 April 2008 for admission to the University of Birmingham through the University's normal admissions procedures;
be eligible for admission to their intended course of study at the University of Birmingham (Note: the scholarship award will only be confirmed when the candidate has been offered a place at the University. The offer of a scholarship is not a guarantee of admission to the University);
be able to provide evidence satisfactory to the University of an adequate knowledge of written and spoken English;
not have previously studied in the United Kingdom; and
be able to fund the remaining costs of their studies at Birmingham (balance of tuition fees plus living costs) from other sources.

Value of Awards
The University of Birmingham Scholarships- one scholarship for one-year Masters programmes (or exceptionally a Postgraduate Diploma). The scholarship is worth £7,500 towards the cost of tuition fees which is paid directly to the University of Birmingham.
The University of Birmingham Queen Elizabeth II Scholarship - one scholarship for a one-year Masters programmes (or exceptionally a Postgraduate Diploma) for a graduate from the University of Hong Kong. Application forms can be downloaded from this Agency's website (Application Forms and Reference Requests ) or obtained from the Student Financial Assistance Agency by mail (Address: Room 1217, 12/F., Cheung Sha Wan Government Offices, 303 Cheung Sha Wan Road, Kowloon). Please supply a HK$3 stamped and self-addressed A4-sized envelope for reply. Two copies of the completed application form and all supporting documents are to be returned to the Agency by 30 April 2008.

Ford Foundation International Fellowships Program (IFP) in Thailand

The Asian Scholarship Foundation (ASF) announces the opening of the 2008 competition for the IFP in Thailand scholarship grants.

The International Fellowships Program (IFP), with funding from the Ford Foundation, provides opportunities for exceptional individuals who wish to undertake advanced studies and who will use this education to make outstanding contributions in their respective fields, furthering development in their own communities and greater economic and social justice worldwide. To ensure that IFP Fellows are drawn from more diverse backgrounds, IFP actively recruits candidates from social groups and communities that lack systematic access to higher education.

Fellowship Provisions In 2008, IFP Thailand provides up to Fourteen (12 fellowships for Master's degree study and 2 fellowships for Doctorate degree study) graduate-level awards each year in an appropriate university program anywhere in the world, including Thailand, administered by designated IFP strategic university partners (SUPs).

The provisions of the IFP grant include:
• Tuition fee for full-time enrollment in an accredited university;
• Support for up to two years towards a master’s degree in any academic discipline or field of study that is consistent with the Ford Foundation priority areas;
• Intensive foreign language studies for not more than one year, plus basic skills training in research methodology and computers prior to enrollment; and
• Assistance in choosing and enrolling at the selected university.

Eligibility Requirements
• Applicants must be Thai citizens or permanent residents of the Northeast or members of ethnic minority groups in Northeastern Thailand who are currently residing and working in the Northeast;• Hold a bachelor’s degree from a college or university in the Northeast (graduates from Ramkhamhaeng University and Sukhothai Thammathirat Open University will also be considered);
• Have at least three years of full-time work experience in community service or in development-related activities relevant to the proposed field of study;
• Must not be enrolled in the degree that he or she applies for the fellowship;
• Propose a graduate degree program that will directly enhance their capacity to excel in an academic, policy, practical or artistic discipline/field corresponding to one or more of the Ford Foundation’s priority areas;
• Present an action plan that will apply their studies to social problems or issues in Thailand
• Commit to working on these issues after the fellowship period; and
• For the applicant of Ph.D. degree study, at least 3 years at work experiences after Master's degree completion is requried.
Preferred Fields of StudyApplicants may choose to pursue an academic discipline or field of study related to one of the following program areas:

Application Procedure
Application forms and all required documents must be submitted to the Asian Scholarship Foundation (ASF) on or before February 29, 2008.
Applications are then reviewed and qualified candidates are invited for interviews in June 2008 in Khon Kaen. A language assessment test is administered to determine any needed language enhancement training.
An independent Selection Committee evaluates all applications, interviews qualified candidates and makes the final selection of the finalists for endorsement and approval of the IFP Secretariat in New York. The announcement of selection result will be made in July 2008. The application deadline for the 2008 competition is February 29, 2008.

Scholarship 2007/08 for Postgraduate Students

Highways into the Next Century 1996 International Conference Scholarship 2007/08 for Postgraduate Students of Department of Civil and Structural Engineering of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University In 1996, an international conference, "Highways into the Next Century", was organized by the Hong Kong Highways Association Ltd., the Highways Department of the then Hong Kong Government, and the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers. Surplus from the Conference was used to set up a scholarship fund to finance young engineers to further their studies.

Qualifications:
Hong Kong Permanent Resident holding a Bachelor Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering from a Hong Kong Institution of Engineers accredited university or equivalent. Scholastic achievement comparable to first class honours preferred. Priority given to graduate from a local university.
• Being admitted to the Department of Civil and Structural Engineering (CSE) of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University on postgraduate study which is related, or has application to highways.

Selection:
• By a Selection Committee with representative from respective donors concerned, chaired by the Head of the Department of CSE.

Number, Value, & Tenure of Award:
• Two scholarships of HK$20,000 each in the 2007/08 academic year, tenable for a period not exceeding two years. The tenure may be extended where necessary as the Selection Committee sees fit. The Scholarship may be held concurrently with the postgraduate studentship.
• When candidates are judged to be of insufficient merit, no award will be offered.
