Of the masters scholarships, six are in politics and international relations and one is in law. There is currently no masters scholarship in migration studies.
The University is currently calling for applications for one doctoral scholarship and five masters scholarships (all in politics and international relations) for 2010/2011. Further details can be found below. The deadline for all applications is Fri 25 June with successful candidates being informed before Fri 9 July.
PhD Scholarships
Funding for doctoral research scholarships is available for one year in the first instance, extended to a maximum of three years for full-time students and five years for part-time students, based on satisfactory progress. Successful candidates will be registered as students of the University of Kent; registered initially for the MPhil they will be expected to transfer/upgrade to the PhD within 18 months of registration for full-time students and 3 years for part-time students.
Candidates will receive tuition fees (€14,950 in 2010/11 for full-time students). All candidates will be subject to an annual review of progress and performance and will be expected to perform at a satisfactory level to ensure renewal of their award.
Successful applicants will pursue a thesis topic in an area of research strength of the school. We particularly welcome research proposals in European Public Policy, International Relations, International Conflict Analysis, International Political Economy, International Development and Political Strategy and Communication. Applicants should normally have obtained, or be about to obtain a relevant Master’s degree at merit or distinction level. These scholarships are open to students of all nationalities.
Candidates are invited to make an application to study for an MPhil/PhD by following the instructions as detailed on the following webpage: http://www.kent.ac.uk/brussels/BSIS/admissions/index.html [5]. This application should be followed by a research proposal, CV, covering letter and two academic references.
Once accepted onto the programme, candidates should confirm their wish to be considered for a scholarship by sending a letter/email to ukbschols2@kent.ac.uk [6] explaining why they believe that they should be awarded a scholarship and what benefits they would bring to the school's research and teaching community. Candidates must place their application number on this letter/email and indicate 'scholarships' in the subject title.
