ASEAN in Today’s World (AsTW)

ASEAN in Today’s World (AsTW)
AsTW is a three-week international programme on Asian languages & cultures and ASEAN studies. The medium of instruction is English, and AsTW is suitable for university students from around the world. Kyushu University (Japan) and Mahidol University (Thailand), two of most prestigious universities in Asia, are co-organizing the programme with the strong support from the ASEAN Secretariat.

2009 session of AsTW will convene March 12 to April 2, 2009, at the Salaya Campus of Mahidol University in Thailand. The application deadline is Januaray 13, 2009.
Structure of AsTW

AsTW consists of three parts: ASEAN Studies courses (ASC), Asian Languages & Cultures (ALC) and Field Trips, providing students with a unique study opportunity. Students select any one of the morning ALC classes and two afternoon ASC classes.

ASC gives AsTW a distinction as a comprehensive academic programme of ASEAN issues that increasingly play an important role in the world and ASEAN plus 3 relations. Students will broaden their knowledge and gain deeper understanding about ASEAN and ASEAN plus 3 cooperation through ASC taught by professors from Mahidol University, Kyushu University, and throughout ASEAN and East Asia. It will be a valuable asset of the programme that the students will be able to approach ASEAN and Asia from various directions. In addition, students will be able to select one of the five intensive Asian language programmes. The combination of ASC and ALC contributes to the students’ synthetic understanding on ASEAN and East Asia.
Several field trips will be held during the programme. Each excursion is planned in the expectation that students are able to experience some part of Thai culture and the Thai aesthetic sense.

To complete the programme, students must take at least 3 courses (one ALC and two ASCs). Students who complete the programme will be awarded a certificate jointly signed by the Presidents of Kyushu University and Mahidol University.
