Applications are invited for 3 PhD studentships to begin in October 2010 in advanced neuoroimaging at Cardiff University. The research projects will be experimentally focussed aiming to apply physical science methodology to biological systems in three main areas: integration of multiple neuroimaging modalities, experimentally informed modelling of brain structure and function and enhanced image quantitation to reveal physiologically meaningful measures of drug-induced changes in brain function.
Research students will undertake their projects under joint supervision with supervisors at CUBRIC (Cardiff University Brain Research Imaging Centre, School of Psychology, www.cardiff.ac.uk/psych/cubric), the School of Biosciences, the School of Maths and the School of Medicine. We offer a research environment that uses the most advanced neuroimaging methodologies to answer clinically relevant research questions.

Funding and Eligibility
The PhD studentships are provided from Cardiff University’s prestigious President’s Research Scholarships scheme. We aim to attract the highest quality numerate graduates who are motivated to apply their skills to neuroimaging research questions. Applicants should have a first class Honours degree or a 2.1 plus a postgraduate Masters degree at Distinction level (or their equivalents). We are pleased to consider a broad range of graduate backgrounds including, but not limited to: physics, engineering, bio-engineering, physiology, neuroscience, psychology, maths, computer science, genetics and statistics.
The award includes full UK/EU tuition fees plus a doctoral stipend matching the UK Research Council National Minimum (£13,290 p.a. for 2009/10, updated each year). Full awards are open to any nationality but non-UK/EU eligible students would be required to pay the difference between EU and Overseas fees.
