Physiology PhD Scholarships

There are 2 main competitive scholarship schemes for PhD students in Physiology available to all nationalities (in both cases application is made via the Department of Physiology):

1. Department of Physiology PhD Scholarships: For PhD students in Physiology only. We will fund at least 2 students to commence their PhD in 2011. Financial support is available and includes stipend ($20,000 per year), fees, conference and research expenses.
2. University of Otago Scholarships for Domestic and International Students: For PhD students in all disciplines. Financial support is as above although there are a number of $25,000 per annum scholarships for applicants of outstanding academic calibre.

Step One:

In the first instance please post, e-mail or fax to the Administrator (do not contact the staff member), Department of Physiology, University of Otago, PO Box 913, Dunedin, New Zealand. Fax +64 3 479 7323, Email physiology@otago.ac.nz (applications must be complete to be accepted):

1. Your name and country of citzenship.
2. Your CV.
3. Academic transcript (and, if applicable, an explanation of the content).
4. Evidence of English language proficiency.
5. The names of two referees.
6. An indication of research interest(s) and staff member(s) with whom you are interested in studying.
7. Statement describing why you wish to study for a PhD in Physiology at the University of Otago.

Step One Applications will be accepted from 12 August onwards.
This process MUST be completed by 24 September 2010 – NO NEW enquiries will be accepted after this date.

Step Two:
If your application is to be considered you will be contacted by a prospective supervisor within a week of confirmation of receipt of your full application.
You will then be asked for additional information which must be provided by 15 October 2010.Step Two MUST be completed prior to 15 October 2010.

Step Three:
If selected as suitable for PhD studies in Physiology, your prospective supervisor will also assist you to apply for a University of Otago Scholarship. Note: Do not attempt to apply for a University Scholarship prior to being contacted by a prospective supervisor.
