Applications are invited for the post of PhD student in the Mitochondria Biology Laboratory @ Laval University (Quebec City), one of the Top 10 Canadian universities. Our laboratory offers a stimulating research environment with excellent technical equipment in a recently completely renovated building that hosts world-class scientists working on a broad spectrum of disciplines related to neurosciences.
Our two main objectives are: 1) to understand the molecular mechanisms implicated in neurodegenerative diseases caused by mitochondrial dysfunctions, such as Parkinson’s disease, optic nerve atrophy, and more; 2) to train quality students that want to pursue a successful career in science.
We seek to expand our lab by adding at least one new team member. We are interested in finding a highly motivated student with excellent education record and that is interested in joining us in continuing our world-renowned research on the role of proteolysis in the regulation of mitochondrial activities.
The candidate we are looking for must hold a MSc or equivalent diploma in a field related to genetics/cell biology/biochemistry and show in her/his cover letter that s/he is smart, knows our published work, and understands what it takes to succeed in science.
This CIHR-funded position is available from June 2011. Starting salary will be $20,000 (CAD) per year, which is more than sufficient to cover standard living costs in Quebec City and PhD tuition fees at Laval University. The selected student(s) will be enrolled in the graduate program in Molecular and Cellular Biology of the Faculty of Medicine of ULaval.
