NESTLE MBA SCHOLARSHIP FOR WOMEN

NESTLE MBA SCHOLARSHIP FOR WOMEN : Deadline September 30th 2011

IMD is once again encouraging talented women executives to apply for its annual Nestlé Scholarship, which offers CHF 25,000 towards the cost of the school’s prestigious MBA program.

“Like Nestlé, IMD strongly believes that there should be more women in management, and one way that we can contribute is by giving more women the opportunity to study at top business schools,” says Jim Pulcrano, an Executive Director at IMD. “We don’t want deserving women to put off studying at IMD due to the cost of the program, which is why the criteria for this scholarship include both academic excellence and financial need.”

The current scholarship holder, Rachna Dayal of India, chose IMD for its international perspective – something that she says is critical in an increasingly globalized marketplace. So far she has found the program both intense and hectic. “This is good, as I came here expecting no less,” says Dayal, who trained as an engineer before moving into business development. “I believe that IMD is doing an excellent job in preparing us for challenging careers. Management jobs today are complex and demanding, and IMD provides the right mix of tools that are helping us to develop and grow as skilled managers. I am also impressed by IMD’s willingness to help and support us in personal growth, which provides the right foundation for corporate leadership and responsibility.”

The Nestlé MBA Scholarship was established in 1996 after a team of women MBAs from the class of 1995 completed a project called “Changing the shape of business” and then Nestlé gladly agreed to fund the scholarship.

Applicants must have been accepted into the IMD MBA program prior to their application.

Our scholarship applications are essay based, with winning essays typically including the following features:

* Relevance to the essay title
* Organization and structure
* Fully developed arguments
* Persuasiveness
* Personal element and/or passion

IMD reserves the right not to award a scholarship if the criteria are not met to the satisfaction of the jury/sponsors.

Number of scholarships : One
Amount : CHF 25,000

Geographic region : Worldwide (with preference given to developing countries)

Who can qualify : Accepted women candidates who demonstrate financial need. Employees of Nestlé and its subsiduaries are not elegible.
Criteria : Submitting an essay discussing the issue: ‘Does diversity in management impact the bottom line? If so, how?’ (maximum 750 words)
essays, or questions, should be sent to mbafinance@imd.ch

PhD Scholarship in High Efficiency Bi-directional DC/ DC Converters

A PhD scholarship on high efficiency bi-directional DC/DC converters at the Institute of Technology and Innovation is available for a three-year period. The scholarship is funded by SE (Syd Energi) and the Danfoss Foundation. Bi-directional power flow is often desirable in high power DC/DC converters for applications such as charging and discharging of batteries, emergency load balancing of aircraft power busses, reduction of power transients by means of parallel power processing in traction applications etc.

Provided conversion efficiency is not sacrificed, the use of bi-directional converters can substitute two individual converters thereby significantly reduce overall cost and size. The objective of this PhD project is to study and demonstrate the maximum achievable conversion efficiency in high power bi-directional DC/DC converters. The research work will include: Detailed analysis of converter topologies, selection of power semiconductors, design of power transformer and inductor, design of input- and output filters, design of controller, prototyping and experimental verification. The qualified applicant holds a Master’s Degree in Electronics engineering or Power engineering and has a strong interest and background in power electronics, magnetic design and control engineering.
